Munich Botanical Garden / Nymphenburg

Covering an area of 21.20 hectares and with over 400,000 visitors a year, Munich Botanical Garden at Nymphenburg is one of the most world's most important botanical gardens. Around 14,000 species of plants are cultivated here. In over 4,500 m² of extensive greenhouses you can go on a botanical journey through wet tropical areas, subtropical mountain forests and hot desserts. You can get an insight into the genetic relationship and ecological demands of plants in the large arboretum and department for systematic botany.

English Garden

With the area of 417 hectares (incl. Maximiliansanlagen, Hofgarten and Finanzgarten), the 'English Garden' is one of the biggest inner-city parks in the world (larger than Central Park in New York and Hyde Park in London). Today it stretches from Odeonsplatz via the Hofgarten and Finanzgarten parks to the north of the city. The beer gardens at Chinesischer Turm, Seehaus, Hirschau and Aumeister, and the Monopteros monument with a great view of the city, are particularly worth visiting.

Oktoberfest "Wiesn"

Distance 17km
It happened on 17 October 1810 in honour of the royal couple (Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen), who married on 12 October 1810: the first horse racing event and forerunner to the Oktoberfest took place at Theresienweiese, which was then still on the outskirts of the city. The name for this "Wiese"(meadow) comes from the then bride, Princess Therese, and the place has be called Theresienwiese since then.
